As every tool, “Visio” comes with inconveniences and downsides hence it needs a frame
Visio conference is an outstanding tool which I believe first psychoanalysts would have used if they had the opportunity. I have been using it way before COVID as a complementary option to usual attended sessions. To some extend we can agree that a presence can be missing but we can also agree that some of you prefer to work this way to save time in transportation, or because they didn’t manage to find the right therapist so far. No progress comes without downside whether they are technical or human. I will ask you to follow this set of rules.
Some rules
-
Privacy
You need to be in a calm place where your privacy is insured without a third party being able to listen to our session. You are not allowed to record the session
-
Technical Issues
Report asap any technical problem that would affect the session (for example : make sure in advance that you have no battery or connection problems that could prevent the session from taking place)
-
It's tough but...
Some moments are difficult and excruciating in a psychoanalysis but it is not tolerable to hang up. I can only help you if I can listen and talk.
-
Courtesy and involvement
Every session scheduled is due. If you have to cancel or postpone I want to know it 48h in advance. Only force majeure cases will be accepted.
-
As a consequence
…if too many sessions are cancelled or these rules are broken I will be forced to consider stopping our work.
-
Not to mention
using Visioconference doesn’t mean we will never met physically, or we never met before. Visio can only be a part of our work, the essential, or a temporary necessity.
